We continued with our long-lasting tradition and had a little Kill Team tournament recently. To spice things up we gave the Heralds of Ruin rules a shot. Now after the three matches I had, all I can say is that the rules are very cool and pretty thought-out. I especially have to point out the huge variety of available team lists and the even bigger amount of possible builds with these lists. It’s safe to say that we’re about the switch on a permanent basis.
We just found two little flaws which we would like to change in our games. The break tests are a bit to harsh. They used to decide the matches’ results way to much thus making some of the cool mission objectives obsolete. We will go for individual break tests for each model (sans the ones 6″ around the leader if he manges to pass the test) plus models in close combat don’t need to take a test. The other thing is the tiny squads. We understood why they have a place in the rule set – spamming the board with cheap models would be unfair. But here in the club cheesy lists are not a problem at all so we can easily avoid this. It just doesn’t feel like a real Kill Team match with miniatures which are bound to unit coherency.
Other than these two minor flaws the matches felt pretty much like regular Kill Team matches – great! I took a couple of pictures during the evening which I would like to share here.
My regards towards my comrades Kjeld, Rekrom and Flattervieh for this great event – it was a blast! As I’ve said before, I’m pretty sure that you’ll read about Heralds of Ruin Kill Team matches again here.
