While I was detached from the World Wild Web I also did a little more work on my scene with the trees growing out of the ruins. It's helping me learn fast the mistakes I've made in this first attempt and what I'll do differently next time.

The first thing is that I'll not only construct the trunks using dowel rods, but instead of using masking tape around the wire to hold it in place, I'll use the white plumbers tape.

You can see in the photo above where I had issues with the thickness of the tape interfering with the way the branches are turning out. I'm not going to mess with them too much, somewhat relying on the chaos of nature theory, but lesson learned.

This pic gives you a better look at what I mean about the masking tape creating the bulges. The thing with the plumbers tape is that it's ultra thin and sticks to itself and you can make a tight seal around the wire.

Did a little more work on the sculpting of what will be the remnants of an impact crater on the outer edge of the tree. Don't forget that if you want to know how to make good looking craters, check out the tutorial over at 3T Studios.

Here's a few closer shots of some of the razor wire that I made. These ones were cut in half and glued into place so that they will look like they're half poking out through the rubble and overgrowth that will go around them. Some kind of long forgotten blockade.

So this little project continues to be a learning curve of untried or refined techniques.
