Really should have played with my Paladin sooner as Reaper chainswording things in melee is WAY TOO MUCH FUN!
The awesome folks over at
Beards and Bolters organized an incredibly fun event this past weekend at
Tables & Towers, a fairly new (at least to me) FLGS that has some really epic eye-candy army collections on display -- if you're in the area you should definitely check this place out. The event was all about dusting off your seldomly played Lords of War models and giving them a chance to stomp things in glorious fashion, which I seriously under-estimated how much fun this would be!

the Baneblade/Banesword & Lord of Skulls both got sawzalled by the Paladin! |
Just a random gorgeous 2500 point Eldar army that was hanging out there:
I was definitely still tweaking my list the night before the tournament, then subsequently gluing and painting models till the wee hours of the morning... but what great warhammer tournament doesn't begin this way??? That pressure to finish a unit before an event can be such great fuel for the fire.
I still had to take some shortcuts, like when I realized my Tactical marines were still on their old-school 25mm bases, and Technical Tesseract Glow for quick Grav weapons:
The original base blue-stuffed on top of a 32mm blood bowl base actually brings the height of the model up to better match the Primaris marine scale (at least this is what I will tell myself until I buy some 32mm base adapters).
I didn't get as much of the details painted as I wanted but I at least had the entire army 3-4 colors minimum & matching bases. Those last 15 points I couldn't decide on went into a Power Axe and Combi-Flamer for the Tactical sergeant. Here's what my list ended up looking like:
- LoW - Knight Paladin [450]
- HQ - Primaris Techmarine [80]
- Warlord Trait: Champion of Humanity
- Troop - 5x Tactical marines: Grav-cannon, Sgt. w/ Combi-Flamer & Power axe [115]
- Elite - Contemptor Dreadnought [150]
- Heavy - 3x Eradicators: Heavy melta rifles [150]
- DT - Land Speeder Storm [55]
This list was a lot of fun and actually has me jazzed to work on my Raptors army again. The glaring issue is the crazy low number of Troops, so this is the first place I would add to at higher point games. Awakening the Contemptor with the Techmarine proved to be consistently solid, although I really should have taken the Multimelta instead of Kheres assault cannon, but other than that I'm really happy with how these units performed in each of my games. I had 3 extremely close and entertaining games with excellent opponents! Everyone was so much fun and all there to have a great time, I can't wait to play with those guys again!
Here's some pictures from my games when I remembered to take them:

About to get krumped |
After the first round, everyone placed their LoW models together to be paint judged during lunch break. I feel extremely honored & humbled that my Knight Paladin placed second in the painting competition! There were truly some amazing models in attendance, and to be fair the organizer's models and paid commission models were not in the running, otherwise I don't think I would have placed as high. But I had such a good time and learned a bunch from the experience, like where I can work to improve on the painting rubric and techniques to focus on to really elevate the model. I'm feeling motivated to work on my Raptors again, which is awesome because I can't even begin to tell you how many half started models I have for that army haha!
All in all, it was a fantastic day of 40k and I can't wait to do it again. I'll leave you with some better shots of the Lords of War. Cheers! (and waaagh! for all you Orks. I'll get you next time Stompa...)
