Like everyone else--nearly--in the Games Workshop fandom community, I've been pretty impressed with the new Ogre Kingdom miniatures that are on the horizon.

I've been so impressed, not too mention not overly excited to work on my Space Marines, that I've been tempted to give square-basing a try.

So tempted that I even went into the FLGS and had a conversation with the owner about ordering/buying some stuff.

Here's where my frustration sets in.

I am an old gamer. I know the fluff. I buy the "White Dwarf." I can spell "Brettonian" by heart. I don't need the Big Ole Rulebook that GW sells. I need the rules, and not much else.

I also have no interest in the armies sold with the Island of Blood boxed set. That's not entirely true: I like Skaven, but I don't want to paint a nest-load of rats and then have to haul them all around. I don't really see a point in paying for minis that I don't want.

Where is the happy middle? Where is the rulebook, reasonably priced (for GW's standards), for guys like me? Where is the $35.00 basic rulebook for guys who want easy-to-carry rules but not those minis?

Ebay, sure, but I like new books, and am happy to pay for them where I play.

Seems like Games Workshop is missing out here, and my ogres seem ever further away.
