As I threatened, I got some painting done last weekend.

I've taken a different approach with these three models than the trials I've attempted earlier. First and most importantly, instead of starting with Ice Blue over a black undercoat, I used Enchanted Blue over the black. I kept the Asurmen Blue wash that I have always used.

The general overall effect is a bit darker than with the Ice Blue, but far more consistent. Sorry that the pictures don't do it justice.

I also finally got the homemade waterslide transfers to work. It needed a couple applications of the Micro Sol, but now they lay flat and don't look much like transfers at all.

I did the painting without the bolters first, and while that allows for good access for the white chest eagles, I'll need to position the arms better going forward by using a stand-in bolter. I didn't align the arms properly and the bolters are at a bit of a screwy angle.

With any luck, this new painting approach will reinvigorate this stalled project. I'd like to end up with a playable marine army. As much as I love my orks, I am tired of renting a U-Haul truck every time I want to take the army out of the closet.

I plan on working up an army list soon, perhaps even tonight. I'll post it. I'd love some feedback when I do.
