The other night I did some really fun painting and did my first OrcOgre! Really had a lot of fun painting him (it?). A lot of big surfaces to practise blending/highlighting and I love doing the colourful parts of the model! It isn’t my best paint job but given how little I have painted recently I’m pretty happy! I have decided that I’m going to really focus on doing better basing in this army and I am going for Scottish Highland theme with heather and tufts. Chuffed so far with the basing, real test will on the big models (Stonehorn, mournfang etc) which I will be tackling soon! I think the model still needs some tattoos and perhaps more detail on the front to really make it stand out.

I have made the decision to not do any model overlap with my Orc army (eg wolf chariots as Mournfang as planned) for a couple of reasons. I really loved painting the orc army but on reflection it wasn’t my best work overall and I want this army to be the best possible army I can manage :) ! In this vein my mournfang will now be dragon ogres with black orc/orcish heads, mainly because I love the models and almost no one uses them! Also my Ironblaster is going to be another big conversion, a Giant holding an Ironblaster Cannon! I think this will look pretty epic and will be great fun to paint!

I am having a bit of a dilemma at the moment trying to decide what to paint and have ready for Cry Havok in June. I could either charge ahead with the OrcOgres and have them ready (quite a lot to paint mind you and don’t want to rush it!) or I could paint 100 night goblins to be used as skink in my LizOrc army… Either way it’s a lot of painting but definitely achievable! Regardless I will be slowly painting the OrcOgres as I loved doing it (definitely not a chore) and I want to keep abreast of the campaign using a fully painted force by the end of each campaign season. To do this I will need to have 600pts finished by the end of April. So in 9 weeks I have the following to paint:

1 Butcher/Bruiser
5x Ironguts (1 complete)
4x Ogre Bulls (extra hand weapons)
3x Leadbelchers

So at a rate of 2 Ogres a week (should be achievable) and 12 to paint this should be fine! Longer term for Cry Havoc (14th June) I need to paint the following:

1x Slaughtermaster (0.5 weeks)
1x BSB (0.5 weeks)
7x Ironguts(3.5 weeks)
8x Leadbelcers(4 weeks)
6x Bulls (3 weeks)
6x Mournfang (3 weeks)
1x Stonehorn(1 week)
1x Ironblaster(1 week)
Movement Trays (1 week)

Total 17.5 Weeks….I only have 14 weeks so that seems like a bit of an ambitious plan for Cry Havok! Probably over compensating on painting time but I have been exercising a lot more, doing some CPD (an online course) and I have two holidays to fit in between now and then lol! You never know though, I might get stuck in and enjoy it so much I get through it quicker than anticipated.
