Hi, Grey Area here from the Heresy30k forums. I've decided to start a blog about the Heresy era Blood Angels army I'm building.
First off a quick look at how the army started.
Since reading a short story about the siege of Terra in White Dwarf in the early 90s I've wanted to paint a Blood Angels force to represent the loyalist defenders. When Forge World released the Space Marine Legion rules in Betrayal I decided it was finally a good tme to start.
I should probably admit I'm not a fan of the way Blood Angels look in 40k (I find them a bit too bright and I think the different coloured helmets look a bit odd) so I decided to go for something a bit darker and dirtier that fitted with my vision of the Heresy. After a few test models I came up with a paint scheme I liked.
I used paints from the Vallejo Model Air range because the colours are quite muted compared to GW colours and this suited the style I was going for. Plenty of paint chipping and some dirty ankles (courtesy of pigments) completed the look.
I tested the colours out on a Jetbike too so I could see how they looked on bigger models.

When it came to choosing what units to start the army with I decided to get the main troops choices out of the way first before moving on to the more interesting things.
The first full unit to be painted was a 20 man blob squad of Tactical marines.

Following on from the Tactical squad came the first ten assault marines. A must have unit in a fluffy Blood Angels force, but unfortunately they are pretty much just cannon fodder in 30k.

In the next couple of blog entries I'll go through the rest of the units that I've completed, before catching up with what I'm working on at present (tanks mostly). Leave a comment or contact me on the Heresy 30k Forum if there is anything you want me to go into more detail with and I'll do my best to oblige.
