But I sure as hell gather moss when I can now, and no, I haven't lost my mind. I'm just turning to nature for a little scenery for my bases. You see, where I live there tends to be a fair amount of moss growing on the concrete paths, so one day I decided to scrape a bit of it up and dry it out.

I couldn't help but notice the way it was the perfect scale for some nice grassy bases and best of all is that it's free.

So finally as I'm working on the bases for the Eldar it hits me to try out some of the moss as I went to my scenery containers. I'm trying to use up some of the 25mm, slotted, round bases that I seem to be accumulating and thought that gluing the moss straight over the top would be the perfect way to cover the slots.

After I broke off a piece of the moss I dipped it in a PVA/water solution to soak it and start sealing it. I've then glued it in place with some craft glue and then soaked it again with a more watered down PVA mixture that I have sitting on the shelf, undisturbed, so that all the PVA filler sinks to the bottom, leaving the glue and water mix to float on top. Once that's fully dry I'll spray the final sealing coat of Satin finish clear acrylic over it, but this is how it looks so far....

As you can imagine, using moss from a path, there tends to be a little debris in it, so I pick it all out under my magnifying glass with needle nose tweezers. I think the result is worth the effort so far.
