So no surprises that my internet access is massively restricted at my new job. So this post is on my phone via blogger app. You'll have to let me off with typeo and grammar mistakes :)
I want a wing
I have been really interested in a terminator heavy army lately. I have been looking at draigowing, which was draigo, coteaz, 10 x paladins, 2 x dreadknights then various units I've tried for flavour. I have tried using 2-3 solodins, a unit of bog standard terminators and also several psybacks with min henchmen.
Draigo and his boys kinda suck..
The problem I found with draigowing is it's slow and can be easily picked off. Armies like tau and eldar will shoot draigowing to bits. The apothecary I use in the unit is nice though 75 points to get feel no pain with a 33% chance doesn't seem a good buy. Plus the real shitter for paladins is instagib and the apothecary doesn't help with that.
You can use draigo to suck up the instagib wounds as he is t5 and has eternal warrior, though an opponent can easily
When and that's a big when, the draigowing make combat their numbers are depleted. A smart opponent can easily avoid the draigowing and lead them around the board.
The paladin super unit is also extremely expensive and sucks up a large chunk of points. You then have this large chunk of points which can only engage a single unit via shooting and only assault a single unit if the opponent is smart.
The dreadknights while acting as nice support can also go down fairly quickly considering they have a 2+ armour save and 5+ inv save with t6 and 4 wounds. They are also pretty expensive too, though what monstrous creature isn't?
Draigo ain't that bad?
So there's the negatives of draigowing, what about the positives?
The paladins can absorb a huge amount of punishment and are effectively 20 terminators as they have two wounds each. As mentioned above it's instagib they don't like, but how much do you see besides those evil ion cannons on riptides?
Then again that's why the dreadknights are there for; they zoom up and get in the thick of things. Like the pallies they need dedicated power to take them down. However, as the list doesn't have much or any tanks guess where the anti tank is going? Anyway, dreadknights will easily beat up punk ass riptides with their force fists.
The solodins are damn helpful too. As the draigowing is slow they have trouble getting line breaker, this is where these guys come in. They deep strike down and not only do they earn line breaker but also deal with pesky camping units, tackle vehicles with hammers, batter objective cheapo troops and can deal with hordes thanks to holocaust.
The terminators I have used once. I found them useful for adding more fire power and more 2+ save bodies.
Psybacks are weak, though add more much needed dakka. I am still not sold on the expensive assault cannon turret.
Enter the Deathwing
Another all terminator force available in 40k is the deathwing. Unfortunately I am gonna leave this post on a cliff hanger as it has taken me ages to do on my phone and I need to swot up on the deathwing ;)
I am looking forward to hearing thoughts on both armies and in the next series of posts I'll look at the deathwing and then compare the two forces.
Btw sorry about the formating for the subject headers and sign off, I usually change these, though on my phone the blogger app just plays up.
