The “Hobbit Tabletop Liga (HTL)” is the german answer to the “Great British Hobbit League (GBHL)“. And it’s going pretty strong these days. There are already lots of tournaments and events planed for the next year. The last couple of months I was only a spectator of that Facebook group but when they announced a tournament addressed at beginners I knew I had to risk a try. The 24 available slots were full in just a couple of hours and I was only able to get one of the highly sought after starting positions after some other guy canceled.
I never played on a tournament like that before just with my Aleator pals. So what can I expect? Getting crushed and humiliated by a twelve-year-old? Most likely yes, haha. But seriously, I’ll just wait and see what will happen. I don’t think I can come up with a strong army build or maybe I can? I just lack the experience to judge properly here so what the heck. I’ll focus on something I am able to do instead. I will try to come up with a cool concept list and will try to be a good opponent for my future gaming partners.
I have 350 points to spend on a list. Since my main army are the Goblins from Moria I’ll use them of course. The concept shall be a marauding band of Goblins from the Misty Mountains. By day they’ll hide in the deep caverns but at night they’ll terrorise the landscapes surrounding the mountains. So I only included real Goblins in the list and no monsters. They certainly need a vanguard for their future raids thus chosing some Warg Riders was mandatory. Shamans are also a good thing of course. I was in need of a leader and I had no fitting model available. The Goblins’ master should not be a shaman but a mean Goblin fighter. I didn’t want to go for Durbûrz as he is a named character and has his special background. If I’ll come up with an own hero you could imagine him very well as a suitable enemy for both, a Lord of the Rings and a Hobbit army.
Therefore Goûrz the fat was born. I figured it would be a good idea to give him a belly as this seems to be a status symbol among Goblins (just have a look at Durbûrz or the hideous Goblin King from the Hobbit). That’s the army I am going to field:

  • Moria Goblin Captain with shield (Goûrz)
  • 5x Moria Goblin with shield
  • 5x Moria Goblin with spear
  • 1x Warg Marauder
  • Moria Goblin Shaman
  • 3x Moria Goblin with shield
  • 3x Moria Goblin with spear
  • 4x Moria Goblin with orcbow
  • 1x Warg Marauder
  • Moria Goblin Shaman
  • 4x Moria Goblin with shield
  • 2x Moria Goblin with spear
  • 4x Moria Goblin with orcbow

That’s 35 models at 350 points. Really curious to see / hear if this was a good choice.

He got the plastic helmet which looks somehow like a crown. Also his belly grew with the help of some green stuff. Putting heroes atop of a rock is always a good choice to let them stand out.

Here he is standing next to Durbûrz (still the bigger shot) and a fellow Goblin Captain. I think he lines in pretty well.
