I've always fancied a bike army, fast and shooty are right up my street. After all, who doesn't like bikes?

The Dark Angels codex had recently come out (about 2-3 months) when I decided to do Ravenwing. The speed of the army matched with the salvo bolters really is my dream; I love fast moving shooty armies. The Ravenwing would also be different from my other armies as they are more elite style and that's not something I tend to do. 6th ed made bikes more better too, not only can they move 12", but they also get hammer of wrath.

Here is the army list:

Dark Angels 'Ravenwing' - 2,000 points

HQ

Sammael
Ravenwing Command Squd - 2 x black knights, apothecary, grenade launcher & standard of devastation
Techmarine - bike, auspex & power field generator

Troops

6 x Ravenwing Attack Squad w/ Attack Bike - 2 x meltaguns - Sgt w/ melta bombs - Attack Bike w/ multi melta
6 x Ravenwing Attack Squad w/ Attack Bike - 2 x meltaguns - Sgt w/ melta bombs - Attack Bike w/ multi melta
6 x Ravenwing Attack Squad w/ Attack Bike - 2 x plasma guns - Attack Bike w/ multi melta
6 x Ravenwing Attack Squad w/ Attack Bike - 2 x plasma guns - Attack Bike w/ multi melta
6 x Ravenwing Attack Squad w/ Attack Bike - 2 x flamers

Fast Attack

7 x Ravenwing Black Knights - 2 x grenade launchers

Total:1,999

The army does reasonably ok. It works even better if I get first turn as the scout move joined with the 12" movement can bring those short range guns into range very quickly. It is also handy if you are going second as you can re-position your force and trick the other player and you can dictate their movement.

The army tends to work well against elite armies i.e Space Marines and armies with light mech or open topped vehicles i.e Necrons, Rhino lists and Dark Eldar, though the Ravenwing really need to go first against Dark Eldar. The biggest problem for Ravenwing are Tyranids and Daemons, they really seem to struggle against these lists. I think it is something to do with the flying monsters.
