White Dwarf Issue #105: The Realmgate Wars Continue

White Dwarf reviews operate differently than other Blood of Kittens Reviews. The goal with these reviews is to place a value for each issue. The rating system is one to four stars, each star represents $1 in value, to a max of four dollars. The review values are also Warhammer 40k based; Age of Sigmar dedicated issues will still be reviewed, but valued for Warhammer 40k players. It means you could see many low valued issues, with a general Games Workshop hobbyist actually valuing them more. Keep this in mind when deciding if a particular White Dwarf Issue is good for you.

Contents: New Releases

As is customary with end of the month releases GW gives us the dregs, this time it is the Balance of Power Age of Sigmar campaign book. The story continues about such and such battle and characters we have no emotional investment in. This is followed up by a new Chaos Box set for Sigmar called Lord Heldrath’s Chaos Deathtide, then we get the repackaging of the Fantasy Chaos range. Black Library has some books for us as well, with a throw away Sigmar novel and re-release of Inquisitor Ascendant graphic novel. There is also an audio drama for Space Wolves. Forge World shows off the Alpha Legion Headhunter Kill Team, which are nothing more than add-on bits for your average legion tactical marine.

Contents: Slaves to Darkness

We get some background for the Lord Heldrath’s Chaos Deathtide, but like usual is just an advertisement for models we have seen before.

Contents: Readers Models

We get some great submissions from hobbyists around the world, some of the models are deceptively simple in scheme and others are full air brush mania. The best of the bunch comes from Benjamin Nicolas and his Stormsurge you can see below.

Contents: The Balance of Power

This nice little timeline chronicles what you can expect to find in the Balance of Power campaign, and if you are casual fan of Age of Sigmar this is a great way to stay up to date without dropping $74.00 on an overpriced book.

Contents: ‘Eavy Metal

In this ‘Eavy Metal we get a focus on two models one from Maxime Corbeil and the other from Ethrac Glott. What is interesting about both models is they seem to be painted by the same person, but if you look close enough you can see Maxime really takes the details to another level with his Sorcerer of Tzeentch.

Contents: The Week In

The week in weak information is really useless with rehashed stuff we already known about Age of Sigmar and a last ditch effort to sell us on it.

Final Verdict

Issue #105 wraps up January of Sigmar with some re-boxing and a new campaign book that moves things forward, we actually get some content with pretty pictures, but this issue is just filler. Cannot wait for next week Space Wolf extravaganza!
