Tits for Tournaments: Adepticon 2016 Top 16+ Lists
Warning
Tits for Tournaments is rated factually opinionated. Expect results, army lists, and some light bitching about boring spam lists to follow.
Now that we have all the nastiness out of the way concerning illegal lists, it is time to move on. I know the lists are what most of you have been waiting for so let’s get right to it!
A few things to keep in mind, the lists are ranked by position going into the second day, this is not the final totals as they included other scores like painting. Two of the lists are alternates because folks dropped out before the second day started, and awesome enough one of them (Matt Root) made it to the finals! All lists are are also made legal per the rules of Adepticon and changes will be made when necessary.

So there you have it the Top 18 out over 180 players at Adepticon 2016.
If you take a look at the lists you will notice one army dominated over the rest: Eldar. Eldar have seven spots in the Top 18 and a few more Eldar shoehorned into other lists! All the Eldar lists had at least one Wraithknight and Scatbike units. Adepticon has full powered D Weapons, so with Eldar having the easiest access this wasn’t a surprise. Still, this is amazingly dominate army, the only other time I can remember an army performing so well was the Grey Knights at the end of 5th edition. What is impressive are Eldar don’t have any way to get free upgrades or units, they don’t seem to need it. Unless future army rules find a way to easily kill Warp Spiders and Scatbikes I don’t expect Eldar domination to end anytime soon.
Besides Eldar there was some variety, Necron, Tau, Tyranids, and Ad-Mech each had a list. Space Marine Battle Company and Deamons each had two represented.
Since Adepticon had unlimited Formations and Detachments lots of combinations. Aaron Aleong list had the most with five and a few had 3+. Many lists had Servo Skulls, Culexus Assassins, and Void Shields; the ability to counter other list strengths seemed to be on the mind of many players. It was surprising that most lists didn’t have some sort of Death Star, though Adepticon was won with one.
One thing to think about is how unrestricted Adepticon was, this is closest to “pure” 7th edition 40k most events get. Since the ITC FAQ is standard for most events, it is refreshing to see such a large event trying something different. I still think with ITC’s restrictions do give space for a larger pool of armies to perform better.
As for my favorite list, it had to Brad Townsend’s Grey Knights primary list. Brad “Hulk Smash” Townsend is known for creative lists and you can see he went hog wild with the open format. He had Dreadknights, Rune Priests, Jump Pack Characters, and the Wolfkin Formation. It just looked like a total blast to play, I can only imagine his opponents turning the list copy sideways wondering how it all came together. It is too bad this year’s Adepticon will be remembered for tainted illegal armies and Eldar, but beyond that there is still some creativity going on with list design.
The next Major ITC event will be Storm of Silence, which I will be attending! It uses the ITC FAQ for the most part, so I don’t think we will be seeing these Adepticon type lists at the event.
