Tits for Tournaments: Storm of Silence Daemonkin & Top Lists Report

Warning

Tits for Tournaments is rated factually opinionated. Expect results, army lists, and some light bitching about boring spam lists to follow.

I have returned from the Storm of Silence 2016 and mini vacation here is my Khorne Daemonkin tournament report and the armies that took the top spots from this Major Event. To recap I took a very unconventional Deamonkin list, here is what it was.

TastyTaste’s Storm of Silence 1850 Daemonkin List

Here is how the Bloodied Horde Formation works.

Requirements: 8 Bloodletter Units, 2 Bloodcrusher Units, 2 Skull Cannons

Restrictions: All units must have the Khorne Daemonkin Faction.

Special Rules: Rage.

The Bloodied Horde Unleashed: All units in this Formation must begin the game in Deep Strike reserve, even if the mission doesn’t normally allow for it. When making a Reserve rolls, make a single roll for the entire Formation, which you can choose to re-roll. On a successful Reserve roll, all units from this Formation arrive from Reserve.

Daemonic Tide: Each time a unit of Bloodletters or Bloodcrushers from this Formation is completely destroyed, roll D6 on a 4+ you can immediately place a new unit into Ongoing Reserve that is identical to the unit that was just destroyed. These new units must enter play via Deep Strike and count as being part of the original Formation, so roll a D6 as described above if they are subsequently destroyed. Victory points are awarded as normal for new units in this Formation that have been completely destroyed.

I only had a few games under my belt using this list, and none with the exact list I took into the event. As it was, I went a respectable 3-2 and should have gone 4-1 if my dice had been nicer to me. My only big loss was mostly from being out played and failing a three inch charge. The best game I had though was the first one when I faced, count them NINE Riptides! Thankfully we were playing ITC missions and I was able to win Primary and tie Secondary, along with a few bonus points. The MVP of that game though was having a Daemonic Incursion Detachment to get +1 invulnerable save almost every turn because of the Warp Storm modifier. Oh and the whole units coming back on 4+ helped too.

My second game was the only game I got really outclassed. It was against White Scars Detachment with Space Wolf Runepriest Formation. It was brutal because no place on the board was safe from the The Living Storm psychic power, so I couldn’t hide one Nurgling unit in a corner, I had to deploy just enough units he couldn’t kill all off in one turn. It gave him First Strike which put me in the hole right away. He had the Relic for the whole game and was smart about eliminating the right units when needed to. I played pretty bad and didn’t get any rolls to go my way. It was actually really disappointing.

Game three I faced a rare sight, Blood Angels, but looks were deceiving because these Blood Angels had Skyhammer, which also meant I couldn’t just hide. My opponent was able to get First Blood pretty easily, but once he had everything deployed, it just became a matter of time before all my AP3 weapons took their toll. The match was competitive for the first four turns, but he just ran out of units, making it too difficult to come back from.

Game four was a terrible game for me, but I knew it was coming as it was the Kill Point mission. It meant I had to win Secondary and the bonus points. I was facing Tyranids with Five Flyrants! My opponent could delete any unit of mine if he dedicated enough shooting easily. Funny enough I had the KP advantage for the first three turns as his Lictors were no match for Skull Cannons. Once it became clear the we were going to split the primary missions, it came down to King of the Hill, and this is where my dice failed me. None of my units could hit from Deep Strike and my opponent smartly surrounded the center with his Flyrants. I wasn’t able to roll a 4+ to get units back as well. The worse still, I totally forgot about the Blood Tithe for unknown reasons! While my opponent did all the right things, I could/should have won this game, so I was very disappointed.

Game five was able to get some revenge on Bikes as I faced a Ravenwing and Iron Hands Bike Army. This was all about my AP3 weapons taking over. It was pretty brutal as I avoided his Death Star and just killed everything else. It was a competitive game though as my opponent got First Blood and Warlord. It though was once again about him losing units and unable to replace them.

Looking back I was pleased with my results considering little practice. I was also able to see what changes I need to make to the list. The most important thing is sprinkling in some Icons on the Khorne units, I lost one game because I wasn’t able to bring units in the right locations and the other one would have been more competitive if I did. I also have problems with AV12 or higher, I don’t know the proper solution, unless I reconfigure the entire army to deal with it. I think all my opponents had fun facing my list as they were all able to kill units, I know a few outsiders were intrigued by the army and asked questions throughout the event.

As for the real winners, the best possible outcomes happen. The top five armies were each from different primary codex! Tau, Space Marines, Eldar, Daemons, Astra Miltarium! Only two players went undefeated and another seven with one loss out of 58 players.

Here are the Top three lists.

  1. Jeremy Veysseire 1st Overall Storm of Silence 2016
  2. Ben Schimmoller 2nd Overall Storm of Silence 2016
  3. Ben Cromwell 3rd Overall Storm of Silence 2016

Here is the final total results from the Storm of Silence.

I also have a set of army pictures from the event as well.

The next large event I will be attending I think is the Guardian Cup in Portland Oregon, I will have to see, otherwise it will be the Wetcoast GT in Vancouver Canada. Until then look out for more results from the largest events including lists and reports.
