BoK Reviews: White Dwarf Issue #126

White Dwarf Issue #126: Stormcloud Attack

White Dwarf reviews operate differently than other Blood of Kittens Reviews. The goal with these reviews is to place a value for each issue. The rating system is one to four stars, each star represents $1 in value, to a max of four dollars. The review values are also Warhammer 40k based; Age of Sigmar dedicated issues will still be reviewed, but valued for Warhammer 40k players. It means you could see many low valued issues, where a general Games Workshop hobbyist actually valuing them more. Keep this in mind when deciding if a particular White Dwarf Issue is good for you.

Contents: New Releases

Here we get a surprise release of another value box/game which happens to be pretty darn fun. Stormcloud Attack features three different boxes of Flyers each for only $100 bucks. GW is also releasing another Start Collecting! set this time for Blood Angels, which is an amazing deal if you want to start a Blood Angel army from scratch. Then you have a pointless online only product called Flyers of the Dark Milennium which is just a fluff and coloring book for the truly 40k desperate. Black Library gets in the act as well with another useless Age of Sigmar audio drama Only the Faithful.

Contents: A Change Encounter

Here the White Dwarf team attempts to show us how Stormcloud Attack rules work, having played the game myself, I have to say this particular play-through does nothing to convince you just how engaging and tactical the actual game is.

What is GW saying?

Contents: The Kabal of the Black Myriad

Golden Demon winner Martin Waller shows off his Dark Eldar force, which is technically very well done, but beyond a few ho-hum conversions isn’t anything to write home for.

Contents: Heroes of the Skies

The most useful part of this White Dwarf is a set of new Fighter Ace rules for Warhammer 40k, you can find rules for all the factions with flyers making this issue worth something.

Contents: The Week In…

This week has the usual boring information, except for the Stormcloud Attack app available right now for $8 bucks. If you don’t need the flyers here is the easiest and cheapest way to get the game rules.

Next Issue Hint: War Continue in the Mortal Realms — Plus ‘Eavy Metal

Final Verdict

Issue #126 introduces us to another surprise board game from GW and useful content with new Flyer Ace rules to boot.
