Warhammer Community Sneak Peeks
The Adeptus Custodes, Sisters of Silence and agents of the Officio Assassinorum are all hunting Fabius Bile through the ruins of the Cadian System. To catch that slippery villain, they’re going to need some tools. Fortunately, War of the Spider brings them plenty.
Adeptus Custodes
The chosen of the Emperor have a whole host of tricks up their shiny golden sleeves…
Stratagems
The Adeptus Custodes have been blessed with a range of new Stratagems that will really make them feel like the bodyguards of the Emperor. Each is a true hero of the Imperium so shouldn’t they be able to perform a Heroic Intervention?
Use this on your Allarus Custodians to make a crucial intervention and turn the tide of a combat in your favour. Sometimes though, you just need to bring the firepower.
Got a Custodian Guard unit nobly defending an objective and a sea of enemies bearing down on them? Show them just what a guardian spear can do in the shooting phase.
Shield Hosts
The really exciting development in War of the Spider is the option to field your Adeptus Custodes as one of five Shield Hosts. Each has a unique Warlord Trait, Relic and Stratagem that reflect its background. For example, the Shadowkeepers watch over the Dark Cells beneath the Imperial Palace and can take the Lockwarden Warlord Trait.
Put this on your Shield-Captain and watch as they go head-to-head with some of the most dangerous threats that the galaxy can throw at them.
Maybe you prefer the fast-moving, quick-striking Solar Watch? Their way of war is emphasised with their Relic, an extraordinary guardian spear.
This gives you some incredible tactical options. The enemy thinks you’re too far away to charge them? Advance, charge and then wipe that grin off their face.
Alternatively, join the Emissaries Imperatus, tasked with personally delivering messages for the Emperor. In-game, they can be guided by His power.
Use this when an enemy unit is cowering in cover and blast them to pieces in the name of the Emperor.
Lords of the Shield Hosts
Of course, you’ll need someone to lead your Shield Host, and War of the Spider includes an option to promote one of your Shield-Captains into a Captain-Commander. Costing just a single Command Point, this allows you to personalise the leader of your army by giving them a Captain-Commander Trait. Maybe you’d like them to have the constitution of an Ambull…
…or perhaps you prefer them charging into enemy hordes and cutting down all who stand in their way?
As you can see, you can customise your Adeptus Custodes army to your heart’s content. But you know what’s better than some of the Imperium’s finest clad in gold? Even more of the Imperium’s finest clad in gold!
Sisters of Silence
As the Psychic Awakening expands across the galaxy, it’s good to have someone who can shut psykers down.* To help the Sisters of Silence in their duties, they have some new rules and Stratagems that will enshrine their place as the Imperium’s premier witch-hunters.
Thanks to their Talons of the Emperor rule, the Sisters of Silence can be added into any Adeptus Custodes army. However, what if you wanted to add them into another Imperial force? The Null-Maidens rule can help you out.
Include them in a Space Wolves army and recreate the burning of Prospero.** Whoever you unleash them with, their anti-psyker powers will definitely come in handy.
Whether you prefer Prosecutors, Vigilators or Witchseekers, you’ll be able to quell enemy psykers. Although, if they do manage to manifest a psychic power, the Sisters of Silence still have a Stratagem that can stop it.
Just imagine the look on your opponent’s face when they think they’ve been successful, and then you ruin their best-laid plans. Then picture the look on their face when you let loose a wall of fire against their forces.
Enemy unit hunkered down on an objective? Use this Stratagem to absolutely immolate them.
The new Sisters of Silence Stratagems will really let you play them as the Emperor’s chosen anti-psyker force. Of course, if you prefer something a bit more covert…
Officio Assassinorum
Finally, we have the Assassins. They can be added to any Imperial army and now come with a host of Stratagems that make these shadowy operatives even better on the battlefield.
The Psychic Awakening has seen an explosion in the number of psykers across the galaxy – so it would make perfect sense to include a Culexus Assassin in your army. What happens if you arrive to battle and the enemy force contains no witches?
Now it doesn’t matter if you’ve petitioned the wrong temple for help as you can change to match your needs. Taken an expert sniper when a crazy stimm-filled combat monster would be better? Swap them out.
What’s that? You think that 2 Command Points is expensive? Well, how’s this then?
Find the perfect vantage point for your Vindicare Assassin and use them to consistently pick off enemy Characters with their exitus rifle.
Whichever Assassin you choose to add to your Imperial army, they will be a real force multiplier and can offer some incredible tactical options.
Fabius Bile returns in War of the Spider, and he brings a new army with him – the Creations of Bile. We’ll be showing off some of their incredible rules and letting you know how to make the most of them.
In the lore, Bile is known for the terrible bargains he strikes – those who seek to employ the skills of the Clonelord have to pay a pretty penny for his services.* However, on the tabletop, those who follow him get a free faction bonus, as long as the army is Battle-forged.
A Movement and a Strength bonus? This is incredible on Possessed and close-combat focussed Chaos Space Marines. Take advantage – get your army forward and smash some faces. Just remember, you’re not allowed to take your opponent’s models and conduct post-battle experiments on them!
Relics of Bile
War of the Spider sees the Death Guard hunting Bile because he has stolen a mysterious artefact from them. Fortunately, the next Psychic Awakening book also includes some cool new Relics, which will help you defeat the sons of Mortarion (or anyone else for that matter). One of these is the Helm of All-seeing, it’s both fashionable and functional.
Reclaiming Command Points in Warhammer 40,000 is amazing, and with everyone getting additional ones every turn, it’s going to be just as good in the forthcoming edition. Speaking of Command Points, let’s take a look at what you can spend them on.
Stratagems
The Creations of Bile also get a suite of new Stratagems.** These give you some awesome tactical options and really help your army play like the genetically twisted combat horrors that they are. Get your army into close combat faster with Macrotensile Sinews.
Add this to the +1 Movement they get from the Experimental Enhancements rule, and now they’re REALLY fast. Use this to move your warriors forward as quickly as possible to take advantage of that extra point of Strength. First, you need to get them across the battlefield safely. Let’s see if Bile has anything up his sleeves that could help.
Use this at the start of a Fight phase when the enemy has you surrounded. Then imagine your evil laugh as your army effortlessly shrugs off those incoming attacks.
The latest Psychic Awakening book, War of the Spider, is available to pre-order from this Saturday alongside Fabius Bile, and today we’re taking a look at his stunning reimagined model and rules.
Who Is He?
Fabius Bile’s name has been accursed across the galaxy for 10,000 years. Bile was an Apothecary in the Emperor’s Children Legion when it fell to Chaos and joined Horus in his heresy against the Emperor. Even then, he’d begun his twisted experiments, attempting to improve Space Marines and declaring the Emperor to be short-sighted.
In the millennia since, he’s made his way across the war-torn Imperium seeking to perfect his so-called New Men. He even spent time with the Haemonculi of Commorragh in order to perfect his genehancing skills.
War of the Spider sees Fabius being chased by the Death Guard after stealing an ancient device from them. At the same time, he’s being tracked down by agents of the Imperium, but as they all enter the Spider’s web, the hunter may soon become the hunted.
The Model
Fabius’ new model perfectly encapsulates the Clonelord. Clad in a coat made from skin* and armed with the gruesomely poisonous Xyclos Needler, he is definitely among the top mad scientists in the 41st Millennium. He even has an assistant now, in the form of a Surgeon Acolyte, to help with his gruesome experiments.
On the Tabletop
Fabius is also getting some new rules in War of the Spider.
Looks like he’s had a couple of tweaks since his appearance in Codex: Chaos Space Marines, as have his weapons – the Rod of Torment now gives a Strength boost…
…while Bile can now also make attacks with the evil-looking Chirurgeon strapped to his back.
The mysterious device is even better at keeping Bile alive, and he can now ignore wounds on a 5+.
This means that he can survive longer and keep using his abilities to enhance the warriors in his army. Plus, if he’s accompanied by his assistant, he gets much greater control over the outcome of his experiments.
Remember, Fabius gets to enhance a unit at the end of the Movement phase and rolls on this table.
So that Surgeon Acolyte can come in VERY handy.
Followers of Mortarion rejoice! We know that Death Guard fans have been patiently waiting for new rules, and Psychic Awakening: War of the Spider delivers in droves – or, more accurately, shambling herds. Take a look at some of the new tricks that the Death Guard will be releasing on an unsuspecting galaxy.
Relics of Decay
The furnaces of the Plague Planet have been busy, and there’s a whole host of new Relics for the Death Guard to choose from. Be as generous as Nurgle and reward one of your Noxious Blightbringers with The Daemon’s Toll.
Your opponents already know how difficult it is to kill your warriors due to them being Disgustingly Resilient. Imagine how much better that will be for you with a 5+ invulnerable save too. Put your Noxious Blightbringer at the heart of your army and watch your forces shrug off incoming fire as they make their inexorable march across the battlefield.
Stratagems
Clearly, the Tallyman has been busy writing down new tactics for the Death Guard to use, as War of the Spider features lots of Stratagems. If you like your Plague Marines to get up close and personal, pay a Command Point to make them into Trench-fighters.
What better way to spread Grandfather Nurgle’s diseases than through stabbing your enemies? Don’t worry if you prefer to kill from afar, there’s a Stratagem that can help with that too.
This is amazing when used on your Foul Blightspawns to make their plague sprayer deadly from even further away.
Plague Companies
The even better news is that each of the seven Plague Companies of the Death Guard has been blessed with rules that reflect the way that they wage war. Each Company gets a unique Warlord Trait, a Putrescent Relic and their own Stratagems. Follow Typhus in the 1st Plague Company, the Harbingers, and spread the blessings of the zombie plague.
Use this to surprise your enemies when you raise your Poxwalkers out of the very ground. Don’t forget to say “Mmmmm, brains!” when you do this.
The 4th Plague Company are called the Wretched and are ruled over by a Daemon known as the Eater of Lives. With this Warlord Trait to bestow to its favourite, you can see how it got that name.
Charge an enemy unit and recharge yourself with their life force.
Alternatively, follow the 5th Plague Company, the Poxmongers, and join their mass Daemon Engine assaults.
Use this when your opponent thinks that they’ve got your Myphitic Blight-haulers locked down in combat, then Fall Back and unleash hell.
