I recently found an article I am surprised didn’t get more play, but I guess the idea of many Warhammer 40k players visiting a known Feminist website does seem a bit far fetched. As it was, back in January the pop culture feminist website side The Mary Sue published an article about woman in Warhammer 40k directly pointed at the fluff.

It was titled In the Grim Darkness of Warhammer 40k‘s Far Future, There Are Only Men, and It’s Terrible.

It gives a layman’s intro to the Warhammer 40k universe and the roles of females in it. It is no secret Warhammer 40k doesn’t often put female characters front a center especially when Space Marines being 99.5% all male. If you have a sensitivity to woman’s issues it is interesting to see this rare perspective.

In response the poor mans Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw for 40k Arch Warhammer had this EXTENSIVE video rant about the article.

No matter what side you are on both the article and video are worth a gander. One thing though is certain, people take the fiction of this universe way too seriously, a better story would be about actual real life woman who play or partners who have to deal with the male dominated hobby.
