BoK Reviews: White Dwarf Issue #130
White Dwarf Issue #130: Shattered Dominion
White Dwarf reviews operate differently than other Blood of Kittens Reviews. The goal with these reviews is to place a value for each issue. The rating system is one to four stars, each star represents $1 in value, to a max of four dollars. The review values are also Warhammer 40k based; Age of Sigmar dedicated issues will still be reviewed, but valued for Warhammer 40k players. It means you could see many low valued issues, where a general Games Workshop hobbyist actually valuing them more. Keep this in mind when deciding if a particular White Dwarf Issue is good for you.
Contents: New Releases
Unlike last week’s issue this week we actually get some new products! Even better, products you can use in Warhammer 40k! GW starts with the release of Shattered Dominion Realm of Battle Board, this overpriced amazing looking board is made for Age of Sigmar, but could be adjusted for any setting. Next we get a paint set with large bottle paints for the new battle board, great for any scenery painting. The highlight release though is new detailed AoS bases, which look even better than the 40k ones that came out month ago. Like all bases these can be used for any setting and still at an amazing price compared to 3rd party competitors. Next we get a Battletome: Dominion of Chaos which has all the terrain rules for Age of Sigmar– a total waste of money. If you are an Age of Sigmar player you also get five fantastic new Start Collecting sets.
Black Library offers us a throw away book for the still undeveloped Age of Sigmar storyline, Lord of Undeath. We also get a Horus Heresy audio drama The Either.
Contents: Paint Splatter
Here we get a simi-useful paint splatter detailing the techniques for painting large terrain pieces and bonus simple palettes for the new bases as well.
Released July 23rd, 2016
Enter the Shattered Dominion! White Dwarf 130 is here and with the new Realm of Battle gameboard for Warhammer Age of Sigmar, the Shattered Dominion! Not only that, but there are now matching plastic bases so your army can well and truly feel at home on your new board. We’ve got a first look, Paint Splatter for both the board and the bases (using the new Shattered Dominion paint sets, no less) plus rules for the gameboard tiles themselves. On top of all that, we’ve got a Primarch in Golden Demon and still yet more. Get one now!
Contents: Golden Demon 2016
One of my least favorite looking Primarchs gets an amazing paint job by Golden Demon winner Neil Hollis. This Konrad Curze model uses classic time consuming techniques to get the job done, building and blending paints to create a really spectacular finished model.
Here are rules for two of the six battle realm tiles, which you will probably never use.
Contents: The Week In…
Like usual nothing of real note, but some interesting insights from Dave Andrews on the design and ideas behind the new Realm of Battle Board.
Next Issue Hint: From the Snow They Came, Driven by Hunger and a Lust for War.
Issue #130 as we are coming to the the end of the weekly WD disaster, this second to last issue, is really scrapes the bottom of the barrel.
