How to keep track of all these little bonuses and special abilities? If you're like me and have trouble remembering where you left your keys or what happened last week, keeping track of multiple bonuses for multiple champions in multiple units turns into mental gymnastics. These boons can make a big difference in some cases, and using boons, warlord traits, and remembering all of the special rules might make the difference between winning and losing combat, or even the game!
Being a big DIY person, I decided that I had to come up with a solution. So using nothing more than a word processor, some table layouts, and some of those perforated business card sheets so you can print your own, I made my very own set of Chaos Space Marines Warlord Traits cards, as well as a 'Boon Table' for keeping track of what my champions have.
The Warlord Trait cards are pretty self-explanatory - you roll and then keep the card handy so you remember what your Warlord has throughout the game.
The boon table was originally going to be smaller cards like the warlord trait cards, but then I realized that if I just laminate the table and pick up some different colored glass beads (available at game stores and craft stores) I could just put the bead on the boon, and then use another one of the same color and put it next to the Champion. Of course, I'll have to figure out something else for wound markers now (been using dice, bad idea!) but that's OK.
I've already done some similar markers last edition for Vehicle Damage results, which was REALLY helpful. The font I used is a freeware font called "Dominican" if you want to make your own (it's the same font for the Ruinous Powers bannerhead graphic!) and it looks very old-school 40K, which I like. Feel free to make your own! For obvious reasons, I can't sell these or even give them away, but the idea is yours to use as you see fit.
Now to put together some lists and give the new codex a trial run on the game table!
