A few weeks ago an experiment took flight, the Torrent of Fire Tournament, besides showcasing many of the best Warhammer 40k players, the real agenda was showcasing Asymmetrical Missions or commonly known asĀ “fixing” 6th edition through missions. Asymmetrical missions are pretty simple, they provide each player their own goals to achieve victory tailored to their list, or what they think is best tactical way to defeat their opponent. The big goal is to avoid COMPING the game by balancing it through missions. The idea isn’t new, but it started to take shape last year. The Torrent of Fire Tournament was the first big time test, attempting to get the top players on board to spread the message. The only problem was the tournament results; Death Stars still dominated, but it was worth the effort and definitely something to build on.
If you want to take a look at the Missions here is a link.
An outgrowth of Asymmetrical Missions is it gets other folks thinking outside the box, trying to come up with their own or hybrid missions. The guys on the Forge the Narrative Podcast have done just that by releasing their own missions for players to test.
They talk about mission ideas on their latest Podcast here…

Now, all this mission experimenting might come to a crashing halt when the rumored 6.5 rules comes out; for now though it is better than changing the rules because you got beat by one combo, one time…two years ago.
