BoK Reviews: White Dwarf Issue #106

White Dwarf Issue #106: Curse of the Wulfen

White Dwarf reviews operate differently than other Blood of Kittens Reviews. The goal with these reviews is to place a value for each issue. The rating system is one to four stars, each star represents $1 in value, to a max of four dollars. The review values are also Warhammer 40k based; Age of Sigmar dedicated issues will still be reviewed, but valued for Warhammer 40k players. It means you could see many low valued issues, with a general Games Workshop hobbyist actually valuing them more. Keep this in mind when deciding if a particular White Dwarf Issue is good for you.

Contents: New Releases

Yippie, no more Sigmar for now… White Dwarf finally gets back to 40k with a bang and the surprise release of the Space Wolves Wulfen models! In less than two years since the last Space Wolves codex hit, they get an update to go along with another campaign, Warzone Fenris: Curse of the Wulfen. The Wulfen for the most part look pretty silly, the overpriced box certainly isn’t helping. Along with the new campaign we get an updated limited edition Chaos Daemon codex which contains all the new rules found in the Curse of the Wulfen. Daemons get a new set of Datacards with all new psychic powers. From Black Library we get  large scale Space Wolf art work and a Space Wolf short story collection. Forge World shows off one of the most amazing releases the giant Mastodon transport vehicle.

Contents: Paint Splatter

As you can imagine paint splatter shows us how to paint the new Wulfen models, nothing really stands out. The Bestial Flesh palette though has some value.

Contents: Illuminations

This version of Illuminations has Space Wolves in all their furry glory, the art work samples are for the most part breathtaking. The Hall of Bjorn and the following piece being the best.

Contents: Hall of Fame

We get some boring filler as GW uses some old Imperial Knight images to try to sell us more of them.

Contents: The Rules

Here we get the rules for the Wulfen along with the various weapons and special rules.

Contents: The Week In

The week in weak information is a recap of what the rest of the White Dwarf showed us, with some insight into the stories that will be playing out in the latest 40k campaign!

Next Issue Hint: We Unleash the Slayer, The Legions of Death and Golden Demon

Final Verdict

Issue #106 finally gives us some new 40k, hardly what anyone expect or really clamored for. At least it looks like old codexes will be getting the Tau treatment without folks being forced to buy a completely new codex, well sorta…
