So after a lot of to-ing and fro-ing I've finally entered the 30k/40k universe. It took me a long time to decide on which legion to plump for, made more difficult by the fact that Rich had baggsied Fists. I toyed with World Eaters, Space Wolves and Sons of Horus before finally choosing Ultramarines. This decision was based almost entirely on Dan Abnett's superb Know No Fear and the desire to smash up Scott's Word Bearers!
I didn't really give two hoots about the smurfs until I read that, but inspired, I've decided to theme my force as survivors of the underground wars in Calth. There was a couple for reasons for this, but mainly I loved the look of the damaged, weathered HH marines and wanted to have a go myself. My force really are going to look like they've had seven shades kicked out of them and I'm going to be pushing myself with the weathering and damage, which is something I've never tried before.
My first attempt was with the excellent Captain Aethon model form the Betrayal of Calth box set and I'm really chuffed with how he's turned out. I'll put some pics up (they're no the best soz!) and I'm really excited to crack on with the project with the aim of getting a Kill Team done my end of Jan.
